Camping in the Aure and Louron valleys
In the heart of the Pyrenees, bordering the National Park, the Aure and Louron valleys offer richly contrasting mountain landscapes. This land of art and history has been forged over the centuries by its agro-sylvo-pastoral traditions. From your campsite in the Pyrénées le Ruisseau, you have access to this magnificent natural heritage.
The medieval city
Arreau is the main town in these valleys, which are made up of some fifty villages and hamlets with the charm of yesteryear. The area has preserved all its authenticity, with typical mountain architecture and traditional crafts handed down from time immemorial.
The country’s landscapes vary between high mountains, plains and gorges, offering a harmony of shapes and a mosaic of colors between brown forests, green meadows and houses with black slate roofs.
The traditional architecture has taken full advantage of the forests, and the houses show the ancestral skill of building solid structures using materials from the surrounding quarries: marble, stone and slate.
Between villages and nature
This exceptional territory is home to a wide variety of flora and fauna, as well as rare and vulnerable natural species.
Most villages bear witness to an economic past based on the wool trade. Numerous Romanesque churches have been built, demonstrating the religious fervor of the peasants of yesteryear. They feature beautiful murals and altarpieces. The valleys were protected by watchtowers that can still be seen today.
